Most cyclists, recreational or racers, have at some point experienced low back pain, neck pain, or both. In my experience as a Chiropractor I have seen many patients who have had issues with their neck or low back while riding. Oftentimes it is a positional issue, while other times it is in fact a structural problem.

With so many electronic gadgets out there to help you get faster I thought it would be interesting to write about a totally un-electronic product I have been using over the past few months in my training. They are called PowerCranks and no, they have nothing to do with measuring power output.

The "Big Idea"

PowerCranks are designed to fix a simple problem – the fact that most cyclists only apply power to the pedals during the down stroke, when the crank arm is between 2 and 5 o'clock. In fact, many cyclists go one step worse...

Keith Hargis takes the win and Andrew Dahlheim second place at the DORBA LB event in Houston.

Clay Hobson finishes eighth in the 30-39 Experts and Christina Smith finishes 14th in teh Experts.

Scott Zantell took 10th place in his first Sport class race.

In the Superdrome event on September 8th Royce Strange and Noah Williams go 1-2 in the Youth event then switch it up when Noah takes the win in Juniors and Royce finishes 2nd.

Andrew Dahlheim wins Sept 8 Superdrome Event, Cat 3, and Plano Tuesday night criterium.

Sten Schmidt takes 5th place in the Cat 3 event at the Chappell Hill Classic

Christina Smith takes 9th in the Camp Eagle TMBRA Cross-Country 30+X (Men) (just 30 seconds behind her husband!)

Bryan Wadie, 4th place, Royse City TT Cat 4 race

Clay Hobson wins Rocky Hill 6-hr Race and completes the fastest lap of the day

Clay Hobson, 7th Hotter-n-Hell RR takes in the 35+ while Noah Williams takes 2nd in the 14 & Under age group

Tammy Sporleder takes 12th in the Women's 1,2,3 at Hotter-n-Hell (this was her first RR ever last year!)

 

Keith Jeneski completed Ironman Wisconsin (a tough course with tons of hills and heavy rain all day) to finish in 11:48, only 1 minute slower than his previous Ironman PR which he achieved on a faster course

Bill Scott wins the Super D National Championship series in the 40-49 age group with a 2nd place in the Snowmass series final event

Mike Howard survives the storm of the century at 24 hours of Nine Mile to finish 4th in the solo division

Mike Stawowy finishes his first attempt at the Leadeville 100 in Colorado

Women's Clinic

Wenzel Coaching is conducting a San Francisco Bay area women's racing clinic on October 28 and 29. The clinic includes classroom time as well as practical sessions out on the road.
