Power-Training Tip of the Month |
 |
|
Use your power meter to refine your position on the bike. Ride
repeatedly along the same stretch of road in the same direction in
different positions at an Endurance pace effort. Try keeping your
elbows and knees in versus letting them take their comfortable
position. Try shrugging or hunching your shoulders, bending the
elbows more deeply, lowering your head and anything you can think
of to change your aerodynamics. The position that gives you the
highest speed at the same power, or the lowest power at the same
speed is your ideal position. If you are not comfortable in your
ideal position, talk to your coach about improving your bike fit
so that the bike supports you in a better position. Of course some
positions will not be accessible to some riders due to individual
limits of flexibility and strength. You'll need to try each
position several times to average out effects of changing wind and
other variables.

When You're Sick
|
|
|
|
by Coach
Liz Varner
I used to think that I was blessed with a superhuman immune
system. I managed to avoid illnesses year after year. I could
train high volume, race week after week and still remain healthy.
My teammates and friends would come down with colds, the flu, and
various aliments yet I continued to have the fortune of good
health. Last year everything changed. First came mono last winter
and then it was cold after cold this fall and winter. What
changed? Why was my good health luck gone?
