Semi-Custom Level Programs

The Semi-Custom level program is a good choice for the athlete who wants more customization and consultation from a personal coach in his or her program around an event, personal and work schedule, but doesn't need the time or detail of a fully customized program. Each month your coach builds your training program around your event, training and personal schedule.

A Semi-Custom level program combines endurance training, speed and interval training, event-specific skill training (such as climbing and sprinting) in addition to off season strength training, cross training and to other exercises arranged by your coach with your feedback. Triathlon, duathlon, ski and skate programs all begin at this level.

Main upgrades from the Individual level program to SemiCustom level program:

Your coach can work your exact personal, work, and event schedule into the written programming in advance of its delivery.

90 minutes consultation (Individual level program has 60 minutes)

Consultation: 1.5 hours (90 min) per month.
The program includes one and a half hours of consultation each month by phone, email or in person when possible. The consultation time each month with your Wenzel Coach can be used to answer questions, discuss upcoming or recently completed events or races, and to help personalize the schedule to your individual needs. Consultation time is one of the most valuable components of this program and all riders are encouraged to take advantage of it. Additional minutes beyond the original hour will be billed at the Consultation rate. (In our experience, very few riders exceed allotted consultation time each month.)

Program Delivery: Programs will be emailed as an Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) file, unless requested by faxed or sent by regular mail (at no additional charge).*

Program variables: The Individual level program is based on your goals, event and personal schedule, racing category and racing experience (when applicable), riding or racing region, season start and finish dates, anaerobic threshold, maximum heart rate, current fitness level and past fitness experience, age, sex, height/weight ratio, and athlete feedback, among other measures. Your coach may use your consultation time to analyze power files from an SRM, Power-Tap or other power meter, and direction in the written program may be by wattage if desired.

The written program: Each monthly program outlines daily the workouts suggested for you to achieve your potential as an athlete in your sport. The program contains a calendar of exercises scheduled around your personal work and training availability and includes detailed instructions for workouts utilized for that training period. A written introduction prefaces the concepts and focuses for that that month. The introduction also contains tips, reminders, and answers to frequently asked questions.

Program combining: For those on a budget but who would still like a Custom program, the Semi-Custom program can be combined with the Peak R
oad program (a one to two month Full Custom program) for a planned peak in an event that you choose. In this way, you can follow the Semi-Custom level program most of the year, and then purchase a Custom program for only the month or months leading up to your most important events. Some athletes may find that the Individual level program suits their needs most of the year, and that an upgrade to the Semi-Custom level will work for the extra customization desired in the lead-up to their peak period.

Newsletter: Included as part of the Wenzel Coaching program is a monthly newsletter illustrating skills, form, and tips for riding and competing. Critiques of race strategy, advice on how to handle sickness and injury, and nutritional advice are also included. The newsletter provides information about upcoming camps and clinics and special offers for Wenzel athletes and provides individual coach contact information and news.

Nutrition: Nutritional advice and handouts are available to all Semi-Custom level program participants. Additional nutritional analysis and consultation are available at affordable prices. See our nutritional offerings for information.

Billing: A statement is provided monthly by email (unless delivery is requested by regular mail). A three-month commitment is required at startup. The three months can be paid in advance or a commitment can be made with a credit card on file. There is a one-time setup fee of $50. See the comparison chart for pricing.
