Cross Country Ski Programs

Wenzel Coaching Cross Country Ski programs can be used for skaters, diagonal striders, or skiers who will combine both styles. Programs can be set up for any target race distance. XC Ski training plans include endurance training, interval training, racing as training, and specific skill training including work on the various strides, climbing, descending, and cornering, in addition to other exercises. The off-season program also includes optional roller skiing, other dry-land training and weight training and allows for cross training, including biking and running in addition to other cross training arranged by you and your coach. Because XC Skiing success is very dependent on skills and form as well as fitness, our clients are encouraged to work with a ski instructor as well as a coach.

Plans focusing on XC Ski racing can be divided into two levels:

Semi-Custom

Cross Country Focuses

9-5 Working XC Ski Racing Focus:
Programs for racers with jobs in the real world with fewer than 12 hours to train per week. This is also the program for students with full schedules or anyone else who only has 10-12 hours maximum to train each week. The programs set out day by day year-round what to do to reach your potential in XC Ski Racing. The main focus revolves around the fitness and skills for general XC Ski racing, and includes base training, building intensity through intervals and race training, skills, form and other exercises designed to help you reach your potential.

Main XC Ski Racing Focus:
Programs for racers who have at least 15 or more hours to train each week (and 20 or more for senior elite skiers), setting out day by day year-round what to do to reach your potential in XC Ski Racing. The main focus revolves around the fitness and skills for general XC Ski racing, and includes base training, building intensity through intervals and race training, skills, form and other exercises designed to help you reach your potential.

Combination focus:
All programs can adapt to combinations of skiing with other sports, such as a cycling/XC skiing or a triathlon/XC skiing year.
